Australia Q4 Dwelling Construction Starts Up 15.1 Percent


Construction starts for new homes in Australia increased in the fourth quarter of 2009 by 15.1 percent over the third quarter, in seasonally adjusted terms.

For the full year, total dwelling units commenced was up 26.0 percent.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported Wednesday that a total of 40,022 total dwelling units commenced in the October thru December period.

Construction starts for new private sector homes rose a seasonally adjusted 13.4 percent on quarter and 28.3 percent on year. Starts for other private sector housing were up 18.9 percent on quarter and 7.2 percent on year.
