About Petrobras

Petroleo Brasileiro Petrobras is an oil and gas state-owned company from Brazil. This is one of the largest commodity suppliers. Its main oil and gas fields are located in the Campus and Santos Basins.

The company was founded in the 1950s by the President of Brazil. In the Campus basin, the extraction began in 1971. Notably, the company had been looking for an oil field for a long time before that. In the Santos Basin, drilling operations started relatively recently in 2009.

Nowadays, Petrobras produces about 3 million barrels of oil per day.

Apart from oil and gas extraction, it also produces and sells biodiesel and ethanol - a biofuel that is blended with petroleum gasoline for use in vehicles. Petrobras believes these two commodities have a high potential.

The company's market cap amounted to $92.6 billion in March 2022.

Petrobras shares and what factors influence them

By the end of March 2022, the share price was $14.3 apiece. This result was better than a year or two ago. At that time, it was even lower, trading at $8 and $6, respectively.

Petrobras shares reached an all-time high of $70 in the early summer of 2008. A surge was associated with the discovery of a new oil field. In the fall of the same year, the stock fell to $20. However, a year later, in the fall of 2009, its shares cost $50.

Here are the main factors impacting the share price:

  • Earnings reports;
  • Discovery of new fields;
  • Sanctions and Brazil's relations with other countries;
  • New contracts for the supply of energy commodities or termination of existing ones;
  • The economic situation in the country, inflation figures.

The shares of this company may show explosive growth from time to time. In order to discern this moment, keep an eye on the factors that may affect its stock price.
