Brexit is literally destroying the British pound. The prolonged process of the UK withdrawal from the EU turned to be destructive not only for the country’s economy but also for British money. The UK authorities will have to destroy thousands of 50-pence coins minted to commemorate Brexit on October 31. Apparently, the British were so confident in their plans for Brexit that they even minted the exact date of this significant event. However, the Brexit was again delayed, thus making the old anniversary coins no longer relevant. The Royal Mint was about to issue millions of these coins but stopped the process soon, although hundreds of thousands of coins had been minted already. Now, all the coins will need to be melted down. At the same time, the Treasury announced that the UK will still produce a coin to mark its withdrawal from the EU but next time they will be more attentive. Surprisingly, there are some positive aspects to this mistake, and numismatists are particularly happy about it. Some of them are already looking ahead to get these coins for their collections.
